The receiver measures the distance to the tag every second. While your pet is inside, nothing happens.

Is AlarmePet a GPS? Does it show my pet on a map?
No, and we'd rather say that up front.
AlarmePet is a presence alarm: every second it measures whether your animal is inside the perimeter around the receiver, and it fires the alarm when he leaves. It draws no route and puts no dot on a map.
In exchange, it does what no GPS does: it warns you at the moment your pet wanders off, and not once he is already gone. And the battery lasts 5 years, not 3 days.
Does the tag bother the animal? Does he feel anything?
He feels nothing at all. The tag makes no sound, does not vibrate and does not shock. It only answers the receiver over radio, and an animal cannot sense that.
It is 11 grams of soft silicone, lighter than most metal ID tags, with none of the jingling that usually annoys dogs and cats.

Is this an electric fence or a training collar?
No. Nothing corrective ever reaches the animal: no shock, no vibration, no spray, no scolding tone.
An invisible fence corrects the dog so he stays in. AlarmePet works the other way around: it leaves the animal alone and warns you.
What's the range?
Two answers, because these are two different things.
In Watch Mode you choose the size of the perimeter: tighter in a house or apartment, wider in a yard, a park or open land. The alarm fires when your pet crosses the limit you set.
In Find Mode the receiver starts beeping as soon as it picks up the tag, in open ground from about 330 feet (100 m). Walls, cars, fences and buildings shorten that distance. It is radio: wide open it reaches far, in the middle of concrete it reaches less.
Does it work indoors?
It does, and indoors is where it works hardest. The signal passes through walls, doors and furniture.
Worth knowing: thick walls, concrete slabs and metal surfaces cut the range. That is why the perimeter is adjustable. You set it once, in your own space, and you are done.
What if someone steals the tag or takes it off my pet?
Honest answer: no product attached to a collar solves theft. Not ours, not the $200 tracker. The collar comes off and that is that.
What AlarmePet gives you is the one thing that matters in that scenario: time. If someone picks up your animal and walks away with him, the pet crosses the perimeter and the alarm sounds within seconds. You find out while the person is still on the block.
And the tag has no resale value: it only works paired with your receiver.
What if my neighbor has an AlarmePet too?
No problem at all. Every tag has a unique ID and is paired with your receiver.
Yours only listens to your tags. The neighbor's dog can walk past your house all day long and your alarm stays silent, and the neighbor's receiver ignores your pet.
Can it get wet? Bath, rain, mud?
It can. The body is sealed food-grade silicone with an anti-chew and anti-tear additive: rain, puddles, mud, bath time, rolling in the grass, and it goes straight under the tap.
The QR code is built into the body of the piece rather than stuck on top, so it will not peel off or fade over time.
One tip for a dog who chews everything: clip it to the harness, or somewhere his mouth cannot reach.
Can my cat handle the weight? He hates anything on his collar.
